About The Alexander Technique
METHOD
The Alexander Technique is a method of mental and physical re-education,
taught individually, which has the effect of reducing unnecessary
tension in all human activity.
What the Technique teaches:
The Technique is concerned with thinking, balance and ease of movement
in all activity throughout our daily lives, either at work or at
play. From childhood to old age, those who practise it learn how
to use themselves to best advantage.
It is widely recognised as an effective means of alleviating or
preventing back problems and many other disorders.
In a society where more working days are lost each year through
stress-related conditions than from any other cause, the Alexander
Technique has a vital part to play.
BENEFITS
Everyone can benefit from the Technique. Through unconsciously
acquired habits, most of us become accustomed to unnecessary tension
whilst carrying out the activities of daily life. The Technique
helps eliminate harmful habits and encourages a more balanced state.
The Technique can help to relieve or prevent a wide range of symptoms
and assist in the management of existing conditions including:
- Back, neck and shoulder problems
- Breathing and vocal disorders and stress-related conditions
- Problems with co-ordination or movement
- Rehabilitation after operations, injury or illness
- High blood pressure
- Parkinsons disease
- Migraines and headaches
- Osteo-arthritis
- ME/Chronic fatigue syndrome
The problems caused by stress can be prevented by the Alexander
Technique because it works on the mind and body as a whole with
resulting benefit to its individual parts. As it is concerned with
the quality of movement, the Technique can benefit anybody with
the interest to pursue it.
